    Custom Leather patches

Leather patches can elevate the look of any garment or product. However, the quality of your custom leather patches in the long run would  be directly proportional to the amount of care and maintenance you offer them. Leather and chenille are temperamental materials, particularly leather, so  in order to be able to boast those refined creations it is wise to know how best to care for them. This little maintenance guide is all you need to ensure your luxurious custom patches shine through even after long-term wear and tear.

The first part of this guide is dedicated to Custom Leather patches and the second part covers maintenances tips for custom Chenille patches to help you easily navigate through to your desired content.

How to Keep Your Custom Leather Patches Looking Great

If you’ve ever owned a leather garment, shoe, or luggage, you’re probably aware that their care requires a little learning curve of their own. However, don’t be daunted, it isn’t much, and it is definitely worth the effort because of its exquisite look and feel.

    • Start with the Right Provider: If you haven’t already purchased your custom leather patches, then make sure you get them from a trusted and experienced vendor. There are a lot of custom leather patch desginers out there, but they aren’t worth taking their word for. So check reviews and ask for recommendations from friends or family before you make the investment.
    • Opt for Optimum Application:The best way to apply your custom leather patches is to have them stitched. And unless you have sewing skills to your name, opt for a professional service to ensure an even and refined look. A nicely attached leather patch will also be easier to care for since it wouldn’t wrinkle or join together. Hand-sewn leather patches may cost a little more compared to machine sewn, but the former will get the best seamless results.
    • Do NOT  Iron on Custom Leather Patches: If you make one mistake in caring for these patches, let it not be of ironing them, ever. Genuine and faux leathers do not respond well to heat. Minimize all forms of heat, whether it is from the iron, your washer, drier, or even direct sunlight (but more on that later). Iron around, and on the backside of the patch for best results.

How to Clean Your Custom Leather Patches

Custom leather patches need to be cleaned regularly using a slightly damp soft cloth. Ideally, you should clean it every other day or at least twice a week. If there is a lot of dirt or debris over your custom patch, use a soft brush to remove any harsh particles.

Invest in a leather cleaner to clean your patches at least once every six months to keep the patches looking new as ever.  You can also use essential oils like clove, lemon or orange to avoid creases.

Do not use regular, household cleaning products or you could end up damaging your leather for good. To ensure a product is worth using, do a test on an unused or insides of an old leather product.

Preferably wash your products with custom leather patches by hand to avoid  harsh chemicals and heat from damaging your patches.

How to Store your Custom Leather Patches

Always store your custom leather patches in a clean and dry space. Make sure you put them in a dust bag. Do not handle your leather patches with oily  or dirty hands as the  residue can easily transfer and damage your leather patches.

How to Safeguard Your Custom Leather Patches Against Harsh Weather

Make sure you use leather protectants on your custom leather patches before using them outdoors in hot, humid, or wet weathers. You can use weather conditioner and UV-protected film on your patches to create a barrier. You can also spray  approved waterproof sprays to minimize contact with water.

How to Keep Your Custom Chenille Patches Looking Great

Custom chenille patches are comparatively less temperamental than leather, but they too require care and maintenance to retain their colour and quality. Start by reading out and abiding to the care instructions provided by the provider. Chenille patches can come in different materials and thickness and thus the provider might have specific instructions. But there are some general cleaning and caring instructions that will keep your custom chenille patches looking amazing.

How to Clean Your Custom Chenille Patches

Always wash your custom Chenille patches with a mild detergent. Ideally, you should wash these by hand by soaking in lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Do not scrub or vigorously rub so as to make the threads lose their texture and colour. If you  are washing it in the machine, then make sure to turn the garment inside out to protect the custom chenille patch from being directly affected by the pressure.

Do not use a drier but  prefer air drying. If you must use an air dryer, then do so at the lowest setting for heat. Do not use stain removers. If there is a stain, use a soft fabric  and a mild dish soap to dab on it rather than soaking it in any harsh materials or scrubbing. It maybe difficult to get stains out of a Chenille patch since it is highly absorbent, hence,  it is best to remove any stains immediately.

How to Store Your Custom Chenille Patches

Make sure you store your garments with custom Chenille patches in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. They shouldn’t rub against any harsh materials in the drawer or closet and ideally should be placed in a bag. If you are using Velcro custom Chenille patches then the best way is to remove them after every usage and put them in a small box.

How to Safeguard your Custom Chenille Patches Against Harsh Weather

Unlike leather, custom Chenille patches respond well to water and sunlight. You will not need to use any weather resistant applications, however do make sure you don’t leave them out unnecessarily. If not in use, keep your garment safely tucked away.

So there you have it, all you need is a little love and care and your custom leather and Chenille patches would last you a life time! We at CustomPatchesByBob ensure optimum quality products to give you the most value for your money.
